LE BOUCHON DE CHAMPAGNE
The historic city centre of Troyes is more commonly known as “the Champagne cork” because, as you can see on the map, its outlines resemble one.
The apartment and the studio are right in the heart of this “cork” and close to all the city’s museums and points of interest.
At the entrance of the apartments, documentation about monuments and activities, as well as maps of the city and its surroundings, are available for you.

L'Église D'Isle-Aumont
This church remains exceptional for its history. Oppidum in the Neolithic period, place of worship for the Celts, sanctuary dedicated to Mercury during the Roman occupation, Merovingian abbey and necropolis, priory, and finally a stop for pilgrims on the Way of Saint James from the 12th century onwards.
The building was listed as a historic monument in 1967. The church consists of a nave with a Gothic portal that was once adorned with the arms of France, Burgundy and Champagne. Four bays lead to a tower that rises above the former 10th-century altar. The second nave, located to the south of the first, is decorated with a series of statues. The south aisle was removed in the 16th century and the north aisle in the 19th century.

Abbaye de Clairvaux
Founded by Saint Bernard in 1115, this abbey once housed up to 888 monks. A former Cistercian abbey, it was founded in 1115 by Bernard of Clairvaux and a few companions, sent by Stephen Harding, abbot of Cîteaux. The personality of Saint Bernard gave it considerable influence. It belongs to the group of primary abbeys (the first foundations) of Cîteaux, itself the very first abbey of the Cistercian order. It is by far the most prolific, with eighty daughter-abbeys. It was suppressed during the French Revolution and in 1808 it was converted by Napoleon into the largest prison in France.
Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Chaource
Gothic-style church, listed as a historic monument in 1840. Its Chapel of the Sepulchre features the most beautiful Entombment in Europe.
The scene is strikingly realistic. On the tomb slab, the lifeless body of Christ lies stretched out, his torso slightly raised by Joseph of Arimathea, who holds up the Holy Shroud. His face remains in shadow, for the hour of the Resurrection has not yet come. Nicodemus lifts the shroud; he is dressed as a pilgrim and carries a purse. Mary is bent over, her face worn by grief. Saint John stands behind her. Mary Salome is slightly set back, hands crossed, eyes lowered. Mary Magdalene holds a jar of perfume. Mary Cleophas carries the crown of thorns.
Le Moulin de Dosches et les jardins
The Dosches mill is the recent reconstruction of a windmill typical of those that were installed in Champagne in the 18th century. It is located in the commune of Dosches, in the Aube department.
It was built from October 2004 to October 2006 under the auspices of the Association of Champagne Windmills, based on the plans of those of former times.
It is an all-wooden post mill, meaning it must be turned to face the wind for greater efficiency. Despite the mill’s 28 tonnes, it takes only two men to push the lever and rotate it.
The mill is used for educational and exhibition purposes, as well as for the production of flour sold in the shop.
A traditional bread oven has been built near the mill, along with a historic garden.
Château de la Motte-Tilly
The Château de La Motte-Tilly is located in the commune of the same name. Its interiors have been listed as historic monuments since 2 September 1943. The château, the chapel, the pavilions, the courtyard of honour, the entrance gate and, finally, the park with its terraces and canal have been classified as historic monuments since 16 September 1946. Open to the public since 1978, the château is managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
